The role of urbanisation as a potential driver of development has been recognised at the highest level in Africa. At this week’s United Nations Habitat III conference on housing and sustainable urban development a “New Urban Agenda”, intended to guide national governments globally, was adopted.
The 65-page Regional Report for Africa produced for Habitat III contains a wealth of important information about urban trends on the continent. The lead author, Dr Beacon Mbiba, recently spoke at ARI. The report drew on national submissions from 26 African countries. If you are interested in Africa’s cities but too busy to read the whole report, here is a summary from ARI director Edward Paice.
