Key Drivers of Food Security in Mountains: The joint MRI and CDE Conference took place from March 22 to March 25 2010 in Aeschi b. Spiez, Switzerland. The objective was to produce an overview paper of food insecurity in mountain areas worldwide and to publish it in a high-ranking scientific and development oriented journal.

Objectives
Based on the high incidence of food insecurity in mountain areas, the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) has identified food security in mountain areas as a topic of high interest for stakeholders from policy level, development cooperation and for the research community.CDE is equally interested in the topic, based on its long term involvement in mountain research, and issues of sustainable rural development, sustainable land management and food security
- identify the key drivers of food security or insecurity for people living in mountain areas
- delivering data to support assertions
- writing a scientific paper to be published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal
Participants
Eleven Global Change scientists from all parts of the world participated at the conference.
